The Southern Cross Country League (formally Today’s Runner Winter League) is held each winter, from mid October to mid March.
There are approximately 7 events each season. The venues for the 2016/2017 season are:
1/ Pamber Forest (Basingstoke & Mid Hants AC) – 9th October 2016
2/ Queen Elizabeth Country Park (Portsmouth Joggers) – 13th November
3/ Bourne Wood (Farnham Runners) – 11th December
4/ Lord Wandsworth College (Hart RR) – 2nd January
5/ Manor Farm Country Park (Stubbington Green) – TBC 22nd or 29th January
6/ Polecat Valley (Haslemere Border AC) – 26th February
The courses are set over terrain that takes the runners through woods, across fields and along country paths. Distances vary slightly, but all are approximately 5 miles long (8Km). All terain shoes are recommended, but on occasions, spikes can be worn, you will be advised when you can by the host club.
All races are held on Sundays and start at the very civilized hour of 11:00 am.
Men and ladies race together, but both genders will be given their own scores on finishing.
The rules for this event are set to deliberately exclude faster runners – the series is held for the enjoyment of slower runners, giving them a chance to score for their clubs, whilst having fun. Men are eligible to compete if they have not exceeded a pace of 5:30 minutes per mile in an official road race, of 5 miles or longer in the 12 months prior to the start of the season’s first race; for women 6:00 minutes per mile.
This equates to the following times:
|5 miles||10Kms||10 miles|
This event is only open to clubs who are affiliated to Southern Cross Country League Club. Entry is free, an affiliation fee is paid by Alton Runners. So just turn up. CLUB VESTS MUST BE WORN
A minimum age of 17 years applies to these events.
