Welfare Officers

Hello!

We’re Gary Thurtle and Donna Mansfield, your Club Welfare Officers. You might be wondering what a Welfare Officer actually does.

Our Role:

Our main responsibility is to help ensure that Alton Runners is a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for everyone, including both adults and children. Here’s how we do that:

  • Safeguarding policies: We make sure the club’s safeguarding policies are kept up to date and follow the latest guidance from UK Athletics and England Athletics. This includes completing regular safeguarding training ourselves.
  • Safe and inclusive activities: We work to ensure all club activities are run in a safe, respectful and welcoming way. If you have a safeguarding concern, no matter how small, please speak to us. Safeguarding is a shared responsibility and we are here to listen and help.
  • DBS checks: We make sure that all coaches, run leaders and volunteers have valid DBS checks, and we are responsible for verifying them.
